Billy's First Day of Kindergarten... So Bitter Sweet!

Oh, my baby started Kindergarten today! I know mother's throughout the ages and across the world have experienced the beginnings of independence, sending their cherished babe off to school. But since I'm still swelling in the moment, it hurts. I've been anticipating this for over a year now... and the dreaded time has finally come. Despite my sadness and hesitations, Billy is taking the transition in stride. Alright- he's downright happy about it. As it should be. He's ready. He's more than ready. To illustrate his excitement: last night and tonight he actually slept in his clothes, so it would be easier to get ready for school in the morning. He informed me that he wants to be the first kid there tomorrow so he can help his teacher set up for the day- what an angel! I'm jealous that she gets to spend time with him, but he's ALL mine for the rest of the day (do I sound fanatical?)! Billy (Daddy) gave him a Father's blessing last night before bed; he blessed him, among other things, with a "lion heart." I love that. And Billy truly has a lion heart- a strong sense of who he is and what is right and wrong, wrapped in a tender and kind and genuine warmth of character. I love you, Billy. I hold you a little tighter when we hug now, but even when we are apart you will ALWAYS be with me!

Iggy, your kids are crazy beautiful. Seriously. And you are such a sweet mom...my second went to kindergarten last week and I thought, "GO! Be free!" She was so ready and I was ready too. :)

I thought I would have a party when Carly had her first day of school, but I surprised myself by crying instead. You're right, it hurts.

Ingrid...your post made me get all choked up. I seriously felt the same way when Brynn left. And even now that she's in first grade, I still watch her walk away from the car in the morning and wish she could just stay a little longer. Thanks for putting into words the same exact feelings I've felt!

Just a short hello. Man, what a great little family you guys have. We miss you both tons. You two haven't changed a bit, just more kids. Hope they are enjoying their new adventures at school. We feel your pain. Hopefully our paths will cross sooner than later.

Be good

Glad you made it through. Isn't it interesting that we hold onto that "see you later" afterschool hug a little tighter? Glad your cute little guy enjoyed Kindergarten. It was great to see you last week!

Ingrid.... Oh how I cried sweet tears when I saw Billy's pictures. What a glorious boy he is! I love him sooo much as I do you! It reminds me vividly of the day I had to leave you at Sister Pritchard's Kindergarten in Roseburg. I'm so thankful I had the reassurance you were being well-taught & with the strong LDS influence.
